You can change your perspective just by learning how to maximize your smartphone camera. Not sure where to begin? Take a look at some of the basic camera modes below, then check out the best cameras to take with you on vacation.
1. Portrait
Create a depth-of-field effect for photos, with a sharp focus on one subject while the background is blurred.
Great For: Selfies, family photos
To Use: Open the camera app and set to “portrait.” Using the tips on your screen, select the person or object you want in focus. Simply tap the shutter button and voilà!
2. Panorama
Switch to a wide-angle approach so you can fit more real estate in your photos.
Great For: Landscapes, city skylines
To Use: Open the camera app and set to “pano.” Using the guide bar in the middle of the screen, follow the arrow to the right to capture the landscape. Tap the shutter button to stop, and your photo will save automatically.
3. Time-Lapse
Capture those perfect intervals to create a short, sped-up video that’s easy to share.
Great For: Sunsets, busy streets
To Use: Open the camera app and set to “time-lapse.” Tap the shutter button and watch your camera periodically capture photos. Tap the shutter button when you’re finished.
4. Slo-Mo
Watch a slowed-down instant replay of your favorite moments.
Great For: Golf swings, ski jumps, cannonballs
To Use: Open the camera app and set to “slo-mo.” Tap the shutter button and record the video in real time. When finished, tap the shutter button again and watch it replay in slow motion.
